About the Institute
for Natural Family Planning

The Marquette University College of Nursing Institute for Natural Family Planning (INFP) was established in 1997 to provide professional education, research and service in natural family planning (NFP). Reflecting the mission of Marquette University, the mission of the INFP is to serve God by contributing to the advancement of knowledge in natural family planning through collaboration with the Catholic Church in local, state and national NFP programs.

The three major goals of the INFP are:

• To provide NFP teacher training for health professionals.

• To conduct research and scholarship in NFP.

• To develop and offer innovative NFP services.

Online NFP Teacher Training Program
The Marquette University College of Nursing Natural Family Planning (NFP) teacher training program is a professional online educational experience based on the standards of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The program prepares the participant to provide professional NFP services and to qualify for certification through the USCCB.

This educational program was designed for healthcare professionals and involves a 3-credit NFP theory course and a 3-credit NFP supervised practicum. The Marquette University online NFP teacher training program was developed through a generous grant provided by Our Sunday Visitor Institute.

Research and Scholarship in NFP
Marquette University College of Nursing INFP has developed and presented a yearly scholarly National NFP Conference since 1998. In 2002 and 2006, the INFP collaborated with the Diocesan Development Program (DDP) of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to provide a National NFP Conference. National and international experts in NFP presented scientific and scholarly papers on NFP and related topics. Proceedings books of the conferences are available through the Marquette University Press.

The Marquette University College of Nursing INFP also collaborates with the DDP/USCCB in editing and writing current medical research (CMR), a supplement of the NFP forum. CMR is published biannually through the DDP/NFP, USCCB. The staff of the INFP is currently involved with a number of collaborative research projects in NFP.

Professional Innovative NFP Services
Marquette University College of Nursing has been providing professional services in NFP since 1985. In 1999 a new method of NFP was developed at Marquette University that integrates new technology (the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor - Unipath Diagnostics) with traditional natural biological markers of fertility. http://www.clearplan.com

The ClearPlan/Clearblue monitor is a hand-held device used to measure urinary female hormones that can help a woman confidently determine her fertile time. It can significantly increase a couple's success in using NFP.
